Field trips and Field Courses
We organise and lead field trips to various localities in Devon in the southwest of England, Dorset and South Wales. These range from half-day excursions in North Devon as part of training courses held at IGI’s premises to 5-day field-based courses where localities are investigated with respect to their petroleum systems components.
The localities that we routinely use lie in three main areas:
Devon & North Somerset: Locations focus on Devonian to Jurassic sedimentary sections and structural geology, and can be used to support aspects of our basin modelling courses.
Wessex Basin, Dorset: Trips on Dorset’s famous “Jurassic Coast”– a World Heritage Site include Triassic & Jurassic petroleum reservoirs, oil seeps, Jurassic source rocks and and structural geology. IGI have particular expertise in the petroleum geochemistry of this area, and field visits can be supported by review and analysis of relevant geochemical data from these localities.
Caerphilly, South Wales: Wales is famed for its coal heritage and this is investigated at a designated Geological SSSI site on the edge of the South Wales Basin.
Field trips for individual clients can be organized to include pick-up from and return to London airports, full coach hire, all accommodation and meals, field safety equipment and the provision of an experienced field leader. A wide range of taught course content can also be included to provide a mix of classroom training and field visits. IGI will also work along side company field leaders to compliment material being delivered and provide geological site introductions. Please download the IGI field trip information leaflet here:
