Chris Prosser

ML Team Lead

I lead the development of machine learning tools at IGI, enabling Geoscientists to build and evaluate predictive models through an intuitive interface that allows users to critically evaluate model effectiveness.

Since joining IGI in 2015, I have worked as a developer on p:IGI+ and Metis, later focusing on automation and data migration projects for internal and client needs before we started the machine learning project in 2022. I am also contributing to IGI's exploration of environmental monitoring initiatives as these projects develop.

Before IGI, I worked as a systems consultant, focusing on database development and leading internal software projects at Saga. There, I coordinated developers working on tools like TIA, the platform our agents used to sell insurance products. Earlier in my career, I served as a Business Analyst, bridging the gap between insurance claims teams and software developers.

Introducing the ML Assistant

Clients using our ML tools often mention that it can be difficult to know which models to use. We generally advise users to start with the simplest appropriate model as a baseline (this is the default option), then to try additional models for comparison.

Predicting E. coli risk from continuous sensor data

Last year we began a partnership with the North Devon Biosphere and launched a dashboard exploring continuous sensor data in the region. Since then, several data sources have been added including sample data collected by citizen scientists and Environment Agency (EA) bathing water quality.
