“Onwards and upwards” is an English idiom that means keeping going and reaching towards greater achievements in future, typically after some sort of setback. It ably sums up the positive feeling within IGI at the moment.
Dan was a key man and a figurehead for IGI who oversaw many of IGI’s activities, and of course he will be missed terribly. However, the work was conducted and, to a large extent, managed by the teams that we have in place within IGI. We have a seven-strong Management Team to provide the over-arching leadership and management of IGI’s activities and products, ensuring that we continue to provide full support to our existing clients and offer new opportunities to clients both old and new.
Indeed, we are about to present our plans for a multi-partner Joint Industry Project on the application of AI to support p:IGI+ and Metis, with the aim of streamlining geochemical data interpretation and lower the learning curve for users of the software. Our intention is that AI should be a powerful guide to accompany the software user, rather than an oracle to provide the answers directly. This project was initially scoped out by Dan and several others within IGI, and we are delighted that we will be able to bring it to fruition.
Our annual software User Group Meeting was postponed due to Dan’s passing, and will now take place online from 3rd to 11th November. The aims and scope of the new AI project will be presented at that meeting and publicised on our website, with the intention of building a partnership of several companies to support the work.
Regarding the User Group Meeting for 2027, this will be a physical meeting held at Hallsannery in Bideford, Devon, in June 2027 as originally planned. This will include some special features in tribute to Dan’s legacy to IGI and to our clients. We hope that very many of you will be able to attend and participate in that event.
We wish to reassure all our clients that all IGI’s activities are progressing as planned. IGI has always been a family-owned company and there is no intention for that to change. We look forward to a successful and stable future, continuing to work with you all.
